Jaclyn Svendgard is the Executive Director at Autumn Pointe. After previously working in an unrelated Health and Human Services field, Jaclyn decided to try her hand in the assisted living field and has found that she loves being a part of this wonderfully small community.
When Jaclyn decided to make the move to Autumn Pointe she was looking for a place where she could really be part of her community. She wanted to be able to watch her community grow and see what she could do within the community.
She says she was welcomed to Autumn Pointe with open arms, and through an Open House at Autumn Pointe early in her career there she was personally welcomed by community members including volunteers from the fire department, sheriff’s department, city hall and the local school system among others. She said it was really great how when Autumn Pointe opened its new addition how much of the town turned out to help them celebrate.
The biggest element Jaclyn enjoys about Autumn Pointe is the relationships she has made. “You don’t just get to know the residents here,” she says. “You get to know their families as well.” She says oftentimes employees’ children come to volunteer at Autumn Pointe just because they really want to be there.
In addition to the relationships amongst the residents and employees and the families, the community plays a strong role in the success of Autumn Pointe. Jaclyn said when a strong storm came through last year, people from the community came out to help clean up, including a group of local cheerleaders who helped clean up the yard.
And the residents at Autumn Pointe like to support and interact with their community as well. A relationship with a local daycare means that the children can come visit Autumn Pointe and participate in a variety of activities including having residents read to them.
Jaclyn says the strong sense of community is important because the majority of residents at Autumn Pointe are from the local area. When they move to Autumn Pointe it’s not that different because they are still a part of the community. At Autumn Pointe the residents are there to enjoy life and continue to learn new things while keeping active doing the things they’ve always enjoyed.
